ABSTRACT

Stalin was portrayed as a great military genius, whose leadership was primarily responsible for Soviet victories during the Great Patriotic War. The selection that follows describes what the authors considered to be the first stage in the postwar development of Soviet military science, 1945-1953. During these years both tactics and operational art developed further by embodying many of the lessons of the Great Patriotic War. Despite the fact that many problems of Soviet military science received further elaboration and were enriched with new content, as a whole, Soviet military theoretical thought lagged behind in the study of new conditions and factors of armed struggle connected with the appearance of the nuclear rocket weapon. Discussions were carried on about many problems in the military press and at military science conferences. The question of the role and place of military technical science in the system of military knowledge was first posed for discussion. Discussion of this question interested military science societies.
