ABSTRACT

Authors of the historiography stated that the cult of the personality of Stalin caused subjectivism and dogmatism in the treatment of historical events. The historiography's description of publications and documents on the history of the Great Patriotic War should be most useful to scholars attempting to research that conflict. The first stage of the historiography of the Great Patriotic War encompasses the period from the beginning of the war to the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, the second, from 1956 to our day. Under the influence of the cult of personality of Stalin, in the historiography of the Great Patriotic War, narration and even subjectivism and dogmatism in the treatment of historical events, and the ignoring of documents and facts became widespread. For example, valuable special works were written that were not meant for open publication. These works had great significance for studying the history of the Great Patriotic War.
