ABSTRACT

The decisive act of a nuclear war in all conditions is the infliction of a strike by strategic nuclear means, in the course of which both sides will obviously use the main portion of the most powerful nuclear weapons. The moment of infliction of this strike will be the culminating point of the strategic effort, which can virtually be combined with the beginning of a war. The power of nuclear weapons will be concentrated toward destruction of the military-economical potential, defeat of the groupings of armed forces, and undermining of the morale of the population. In conducting a nuclear war, the armed forces can use the following forms of strategic operations: strikes of strategic nuclear forces, strategic operations in theaters of military actions, independent sea and ocean operations and operations in repulsing a nuclear attack of the enemy and defending the territory of the country.
