ABSTRACT
In contemporary conditions, the presence of weapons of mass destruction allows the enemy to deliver a simultaneous strike on all the armed forces of the opposing side and even on industrial and administrative centers in the deep rear. In order to repel such an attack and deliver a retaliatory crushing strike, constant high combat readiness of the whole army is necessary. Ever greater significance in the external function of socialist armies, and primarily of the Soviet Armed Forces, is being assumed by such a direction of their activity as preventing new world war, frustrating the aggressive plans of international imperialism and saving mankind from an annihilating nuclear rocket war. Armed forces as the armies of socialist states can deliver an annihilating retaliatory strike on the aggressor if he decides to begin a war. This deprives the imperialists of hopes of achieving their predatory goals.
