ABSTRACT

When Methodology of Military Scientific Knowledge was written, General Shavrov, its editor, was commandant of the Academy of the General Staff. A note on the flyleaf recommended that it be read by "officers, generals, and admirals." The following selection illustrates the level of theoretical instruction given at the Academy of the General Staff, the senior Soviet military institution. This two-year academy admits only those Soviet officers who have been selected for further promotion and key assignments. Upon graduation they are placed on a special assignment list.
