ABSTRACT

This chapter provides suggestions for effectively integrating research experiences into various undergraduate courses in the domain of sport, exercise, and performance psychology. Two examples are included in implementing undergraduate research in his or her own classroom. Building research experiences into a course or into an entire curriculum also provides substantial value to all involved as well. The exercise psychology course is a required upper-level course for all exercise science majors (exercise science, pre-physical therapy, and performance psychology). The Research Self-Efficacy Scale is a 51-item measure that assesses individuals’ perceived capability to complete various research-related tasks. The measure consists of four factors: conceptualization, implementation, early tasks, and presenting the results. Integrating undergraduate research experiences into the classroom is a great high-impact practice that provides benefits to students, instructor, and the university. Furthermore, course-based undergraduate research also addresses the demand from employers regarding students’ ability to engage in critical thinking and problem solving.
