ABSTRACT

This contribution is a reminder that history is messy. Judaism itself has a long and uncomfortable history with violence, despite the all-too-loud protestation on the part of those who deem themselves “religious” and those who would prefer to ignore this history, beginning with the Torah/Hebrew Bible/Old Testament up to and including the present-day. It is hoped that such knowledge may serve as a template for others’ own examinations of their past and present as members of other religious communities.
