ABSTRACT

This chapter reviews the openness processes that operate in open innovation and presents technology transfer activities in China and the study of some emblematic cases. Openness strategies can also be implemented through the acquisition or sale of patents or the development of cooperation with partners to enhance in-house research and development activities. Y. Wang stresses that borderless innovation solutions play a role in innovation strategies in China. New and active management of intellectual property is required to sustainably implement open innovation processes. The research thus highlights organizational structures, processes, networks and the knowledge management system. In China, the national intellectual property system offers three types of protection, notably for invention, model of utility and design, with different economic values and technological significance. The Group has also opted for the openness of the innovation process by using both outside-in and inside-out processes; the latter remains the preferred mode.
