ABSTRACT

This chapter demonstrates how all these explicit curriculum elements are woven seamlessly together, and how the implicit, non-instrumental spirit of the teaching process is applied in MBP teaching. As facilitators of the group process, it is important that the people hold these implicit intentions clearly whilst managing the explicit content about the importance of intentions. There are two explicit elements linked to the theme of 'how to keep the people mindfulness alive': first, reviewing what has been learnt, and second, consideration of how to take this learning forward. The ending of a course can evoke a range of strong emotions, both for the teacher and participants. The theme ‘looking back, looking forward’ is operationalised by returning to the first ever practice the group experienced, the body scan. The teacher’s last words helpfully include a reminder from the start of the course about remembering confidentiality if ‘chance meetings’ happen in the street or other public places.
