ABSTRACT

Teaching mindfulness is a great privilege, providing the opportunity to connect with the full range of human experience. The intention of this chapter is not to provide a set of instructions or answers, but to encourage an awareness of the terrain of professional practice, and to consider the strategies the people need to employ in order to work ethically and safely. The roots represent the foundational ethical principles, the trunk addresses the teaching itself, whilst the branches depict the main structures that feed into and support the teaching. Robust teacher training, including training on professional issues and ethics, is crucial for protecting the safety and wellbeing of the public accessing MBPs. Since the canopy offers shelter and sustenance essential for the survival of the tree, it is crucial to pay attention to the health of the canopy. Personal values and professional ethics work together to ensure safety and integrity.
