ABSTRACT

The origin of Materiales is linked to the Instituto Andaluz del Deporte (IAD), which around 1999 was organizing permanent seminars on research related to sport, simultaneously supporting different meetings and congresses at the national and international level. The 10th International European Committee for Sports History Congress held in Seville in 2005 facilitated a meeting among national and international researchers in the history of sport, which revealed the need to formalize a publication that brought to light the research work carried out in the Spanish language. The 2013 edition of Materiales marked the transition to an online open access format. The Scientific Committee continues to expand with the addition of international scholars. The majority of the Scientific Committee belong to a range of high profile universities and have extensive experience as researchers in the history of sport. Materiales is also included in the core collection of the Web of Science ‘Emerging Sources Citation Index’ (ESCI).
