ABSTRACT

Rural markets are important drivers of economic growth in India. Though a lot of development of rural areas has taken place and now villages are even connected with modern information and communication technology, yet there are areas that are facing challenges in terms of getting basic facilities like infrastructure facilities and good quality health and education. In Indian context, a degree course that facilitates young students to get exposure to rural life and equips them with the required knowledge and skills of functioning in rural areas becomes absolutely essential. It is in this background that the two-year full-time Master of Business Administration-Rural Development, Master of Business Administration programme was launched at the GB Pant Social Science Institute, a constituent Institute of the University of Allahabad. Holistic rural development involves development not only on economic dimensions but also on social and political dimensions.
