ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with patterns, trends and causes of religious terrorism in Bangladesh. It utilizes secondary sources for collecting data. An independent and secular Bangladesh became the only country in the sub-continent with one dominant language and with very few ethnic and religious minorities. The government took several counter-terrorism steps and the number of terrorist incidents decreased. In 2011, hazardous activities occurred, perpetrated by the members of the terrorist group. The major religious-based organizations think that with jihad, they will establish a religious-based country. The majority of the people of Bangladesh are Muslims. So the terrorist group wants to create Islamic rule in the country, but they do it in an illegal way. Due to the rise of terrorism globally, terrorist organizations find it easier now to transfer funds between them. Bangladesh needs to take counter-terrorism measures nationally, regionally and internationally. Bangladesh should also adopt a counter-terrorism strategy that utilizes all elements of national power simultaneously—judicially and systematically—to fight terrorism.
