ABSTRACT

In this chapter I present a framework within which to design, conduct, and analyse health and well-being research. The framework or template can be adapted to use in quantitative research and mixed-method studies 1 but in the chapter I will focus exclusively on using this in qualitative research. The framework is called the declarative mapping sentence and I will consider its use in primary research studies, and in analysing existing information. I describe the declarative mapping sentence and I give a step-by-step example of how it is developed. I also provide examples of its use in developing questions for a research project. I conclude by stating that the declarative mapping sentence meets the requirements for content analysis research in that it is able to provide a conceptual framework for a research project that allows the interpretation of qualitative information in a manner that develops knowledge about health and well-being research. Furthermore, the declarative mapping sentence is a theoretical framework that permits the communication of the meaning of the findings from a piece of research.
