ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book aims to provide insights into current research on the impact of digital devices on language and literacy learning and on the role of interactive mediation. It aims to show how familiar interaction formats, such as traditional picture book reading, are changing through the increasing use of digital media. The book addresses the question of whether an interaction with tablets has the “inclusive potential” to bring children of kindergarten age together. It demonstrates how interactive roles are being transformed by the use of digital media. The book provides concrete suggestions for technological improvements for producers.
