ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author discusses how she developed a relationship with her girl friend. Slowly, she started to come out through openly supporting the Marriage Equality movement on social media, the author to her best friends from childhood and her companion to her mom and dad. The author explains that when her mother know she was a lesbian, she screamed in rage saying that she was a pervert, Satan, disgusting, and renounced her as her daughter. Today the author is a student activist and works on special projects at the university LGBTQ Center, sits in on gender-neutral housing policy meetings, manages a speakers bureau of queer speakers that works to educate others on queer issues, and holds leadership in the university queer student group. She wants people to fall in love and date openly and knowingly, free from internalized homophobia, and to be loved and accepted by their families.
