ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a short overview of the special situation Frankfurt is in, regarding cultural and national diversity. It focuses on the understanding of terms and concepts around gender diversity, which are being used by the coordination unit for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and queer (LGBTIQ) topics and their meaning for the practical field. The situation of being aware of one’s otherness and the process of coming out to oneself and to others is a period of time that is especially hard for LGBTIQ teens, and one that in the case of transgender or gender-diverse youth is quite long.
