ABSTRACT
Honor killing is an irrational traditional culture which is followed by many communities and groups all over the world. Honor killing cases are increasing day by day in many places, even after the advent of technology and development. It has mainly crushed women’s independence, education and development. There are some historical backgrounds and many reasons behind honor killing, like falling in love with someone from another case and refusing an arranged marriage. Moreover, honor killing is totally different from domestic violence, which is commonly misunderstood in society. In fact, though there are no special laws and acts for preventing honor killing, using the reason of culture and community status, some try to justify it. Due to many psychological factors, people can’t change their attitude and follow the cultural practice. To prevent honor killings, people have to change their mind-set through education and awareness. Honor killings may be prevented through a psychosocial approach.
