ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I discuss the advent of arts research in the context of the Goldsmiths University of London doctoral programmes which I led over many years. It explores the experiences, research narratives and journeys of interdisciplinary practitioner researchers who successfully completed PhDs between 2009 and 2018. It includes commentaries and reflections by the researchers together with their supervisor, drawing on the transcriptions of a roundtable discussion, online meetings, submitted summaries of practice and email exchanges. Individual and collaborative interdisciplinary practice research projects are presented, providing future practice-based researchers with examples of different methodological approaches. Challenges and opportunities for practice research are discussed in terms of the underpinning of principles and values as well as writing, dissemination and communication.
