ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on an arts health research project. The aims of the project were to understand how older adults felt about where they lived, use arts-based approaches for data collection, and create a digital artwork for exhibition in the community. The project reiterated the need for flexibility, investment of time prior to the engagement, and reciprocity when working on socially engaged or collaborative projects. It shows how art and design engagement approaches can become methods for use in research opening up new possibilities and suggests my practice as an artist and designer prepared me for engaging in this research.
