ABSTRACT

In this chapter I will discuss my practice as an artist, which is rooted in participatory arts within the medical context, and I will reflect on the key research elements within my practice. These include the participatory process, collaboration, and the artistic filtering of the narratives and metaphors which emerge through the participatory research process as a final artwork. I also draw on my own lived experience as part of my practice. My work is interdisciplinary and explores how by working with different specialists new methods of research can be developed. For me, within the arts, and arts/health, and scientific fields of transdisciplinary research, the partnership with the institution and the development of individual relationships, which may become a collaboration, are essential aspects of good research practice.
