ABSTRACT
I work as a musician, using vibraphone and audio software in both improvised and prepared settings. My research interest engages with the relationship between the vibraphone and the improviser, and how that relationship projects the idea of a personal sound in jazz and related forms. I talk about using improvising as a method for investigation in practice-based research, and how the practitioner researcher can use improvising to form new research questions and insights.
