ABSTRACT

This final chapter draws out some of the key ‘take home’ messages that the book and its contributors have brought to our understanding of the need for compassionate universities, and why this is of global significance. The values of compassion, kindness, love, and humanity are the ones that will see us through these difficult times; they must be infused and amplified in our relationships, educational systems, policies, and practices. Humanity and hope are also required. These values need to be enacted and experienced in a genuine and authentic manner, rather than commodified and measured. The chapter concludes with reflection on the value of taking poetry and literature with you on the journey towards the compassionate university.
