ABSTRACT
This chapter examines empowerment as a concept, and how empowerment has played a role in the development of Scottish and UK social policies over the recent past. In order to develop an understanding of this area, this chapter begins by exploring empowerment as a concept, power and power relationships and various approaches to empowerment.
