ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides students with a resource that brings together theory on childhood well-being and resilience and relates it to current practice. It focuses on understanding the concept of childhood well-being and determines that its inherent complexity makes it difficult to reach a simple definition. The book includes real examples of challenging situations and circumstances when children believe they have been resilient. It evidences that some children have been able to use or develop resilience to overcome their adversity. The book concentrates on the shifting policy context of student well-being within higher education. It focuses on children and young people’s role in their own well-being and resilience. The book details Solution-Focused Resilience, evidencing his own professional practice in this field and uses 1-minute reflective questions to ask the reader to further consider their concept of resilience.
