ABSTRACT

Behavioral skills training (BST) is an empirically supported procedure consisting of instructions, modeling, rehearsal, and feedback. BST is applicable to training a variety of skills, including how to conduct instruction, teach communication abilities, promote activity engagement, and assess preference among service recipients. This chapter will provide an overview and description of each individual component of BST, the research base supporting the efficacy of BST, and implications for practice. Additionally, recommendations for training staff using BST and directions for future research are described.
