ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an in-depth look into the concepts of reliability and validity. The inherent lack of total reliability in planning research gets further explained by specific challenges. Several different ways to measure reliability—inter-rater reliability, equivalency reliability, and internal consistency—and validity—face, construct, internal, and external validities—are presented. The chapter concludes with two examples of planning research studies that exemplify the concepts of reliability and validity.
