ABSTRACT
This is the book’s introductory chapter. As such, it presents the background and motivation for the concept of musical gentrification, as well as the origins and facts of the research project from which the book springs. Furthermore, the authors—the book editors—explain the scope and structure of the entire book, which—in addition to the introduction—consists of ten different chapters and an afterword that opens a space for critical reflection and further questions.
