ABSTRACT

Iran, one of the oldest nations and historically known as Persia, is a non-Arab Muslim country located in Western Asia. Mohammad Ayatollah Khomeini declared that “The Islamic government is the government of the law and God alone is the ruler and the legislator. The victory of the Islamic revolution in Iran not only brought about a sea change in its domestic politics, but external affairs as well. The establishment of the Islamic republic government in Iran had far-reaching effect on some Muslim countries like Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states who were close to the US. In August 1988, Iraq-Iran war came to an end, but, even before Iran could come out of the devastating effect of the war, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Grand Ayatollah Imam Khomeini died on June 3, 1989, leading to the leadership crisis in Iran.
