ABSTRACT

Housed in the Department of Languages, Cultures, and International Trade, international studies became a new major at Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2011. International studies has a strong language component that encourages continued language learning at advanced levels while also helping students to prepare for international professions. During my tenure as Director of International Studies from 2012 through 2016, I taught the international studies introductory seminar, which highlighted the multidisciplinary aspects of the major. My chapter will discuss the international studies curriculum within the theoretical context of collaborations and partnerships at a time of unparalleled uncertainty in higher education.
