ABSTRACT

Arts-based critical autoethnography offers a unique position for the depicting of intangible, emotional and sometimes chaotic moments of liminality of the immigrant experience. Through arts-based critical autoethnography, I, as a Chinese immigrant/arts therapist/researcher, look into multiple realities rather than focus on a single, fixed answer. Through engaging with art-making and poetic exploration, my art becomes the basis of inquiry looking into these moments of liminality of my immigration journey. Through arts-based critical autoethnography, I reflect on my immigration experience and explore cultural/social/political impacts on my identity formation. Throughout, I work with several natural metaphors such as tree, roots, bird and sun in order to depict emotional moments on this wayfinding journey.
