ABSTRACT

This essay presents kurahuna as a Māori enquiry framework of understanding. It demonstrates how I have used oral traditions and genealogy in ritual chant to tell a holistic autoethnographic story of surviving knowledge that intimately interconnects one’s cultural heritage to their present and future self. Ritual chant is the voice that applies understanding in this space, discussion is how I share what I have learnt, and Māori enquiry is the process that accumulates the understanding.
