ABSTRACT

Geropsychology is a dynamic field of practice that requires the clinician to integrate information from the patient’s medical, cognitive, and psychiatric domains. This chapter provides practice considerations related to conducting brief neurocognitive assessments with elderly patients in a home environment. Topics reviewed include the following: clinical benefits associated with cognitive assessment in the elderly, the importance of gathering collateral information, considerations for test selection, and practical suggestions for managing the unique challenges associated with assessing patients in their home environment.
