ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we describe the benefits of conducting evidence-based psychotherapies (EBPs) in the home with older adults. We present case examples to demonstrate our work with patients as part of the Veterans Affairs home-based primary care program. In addition to describing empirically-based work for depression, anxiety, and insomnia, we also describe the process of including a caregiver as a therapy coach and using tele-mental health to conduct an EBP from a distance. Our primary goal is to demonstrate the benefits of providing EBPs in home-based care with older patients to in-home mental health practitioners who typically use other therapy models.
