ABSTRACT

Mental health providers delivering care in the home often work with informal caregivers to enhance the caregiver’s effectiveness to help achieve healthcare goals. Caregivers can often benefit from skills training and reinforcement of self-care to help them overcome the psychological challenges that typically accompany the caregiving role. By offering emotional support and providing psychological coaching to the caregiver, providers are, in turn, enriching the care provided to the care recipient. The hope is that by enhancing the caregiver’s skill set, resiliency, and perseverance, the care recipient will experience an improved quality of care and quality of life.
