ABSTRACT

Communication is essential for healthy life and good business decisions, but being overwhelmed by communication is not. Just like food is essential for survival, too much of it can be bad for us. The value of reflection is underrated because business is so concerned with action and activity – things that are easy to measure – rather than thinking about action, which looks too much like staring into space. Many organisations are establishing organisational communication etiquette and even providing training courses on the appropriate use of communication and clear language within their business. As employees further blur the lines between work and play by working flexible hours, home working, or bringing their own devices, apps and tools to work, there is a risk that switching off from the digital business world entirely will become more and more difficult.
