ABSTRACT

Zimbabwe aspires to be an upper-middle income country by 2030. It seeks to embark on this trajectory and overcome the many years of economic turmoil. Healing, integration, forgiveness, and reconciliation have different nuances, but they refer to the desire to inculcate and nurture cultures of peace. The chapter aims to some of the key challenges that Zimbabwe must negotiate if it is to make progress on the path to national healing, reconciliation, and integration. D. Munemo has highlighted the political history of Zimbabwe, tracing how the various agreements between and amongst political parties have struggled to deliver peace, reconciliation, and unity. The quest for and retention of political power has authored a related challenge of divisive ethnicity in Zimbabwe. The challenge of ethnicity can be addressed by emphasising the capabilities that people from diverse groups bring to the national developmental agenda. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
