ABSTRACT

This chapter will focus on offering some practical and creative solutions for counsellors and teachers when working with groups and especially with vulnerable children, using Embodiment- Projection-Role Sue Jennings paradigm. EPR was developed by the dramatherapist Dr Sue Jennings following her observations of the key stages of dramatic play from birth to seven years. So it’s a developmental paradigm that uniquely describes the progression of play in direct contact with the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development in children.

By following the EPR stages and using the EPR’s play techniques, counsellors and teachers can really get in touch with the child and with his true needs. Using play, sometimes sensorial play, other times projective play or role play, it all leads to a very special place, where the child can feel safe, seen by others, connected, powerful and belonging. And when the child is offered the chance to experience these feelings, we have a higher chance to create a proper environment for academic learning.
