ABSTRACT

In Korea, international film festivals are considered representative cultural events, which offer cultural experiences through a combination of relevant content and tourism. This research conducts a systematic analysis of the profiles of visitors to international film festivals and their motivations to attend such festivals. A comparison of the visitors’ characteristics reveals differences in the demographics, movie consumption, and festival experiences of each festival. Factor analysis reveals that motivations for visiting an international film festival consist of three dimensions: (a) ‘enjoyment of the movie, arts, and culture’, (b) ‘leisure’, and (c) ‘festival attendance’. Subsequent regression analysis shows that the first dimension influenced satisfaction in all film festivals. However, in the case of the Busan International Film Festival, ‘festival attendance’ also affects satisfaction.
