ABSTRACT

Czechoslovak Television started broadcasting in 1953, but the first specialist show dedicated to cooking only appeared on the screen ten years later. It was a very successful advertising show called Vaří šéfkuchař [Chef cooks], which was broadcast during the rest of the 1960s. The goal was to change the dietary habits of the population and to diversify their diet. Special cycles such as regional specialities or international cuisine were popular. It differed from TV shows in other countries by not being associated with a specific protagonist, but used chefs from prominent restaurants alternating with amateurs.
