ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the Western Sydney University (WSU) choir module, housed as the final component of the first year of music performance studies. The choir module has also been designed to reflect community choirs in Australia in terms of the repertoire and teaching and learning practices that are widespread in the community choir scene. The lecture for the choir module aims to inform students about community choir practices across Australia by providing them with a snapshot of a number of these diverse choirs. The module aims to expose students to a range of choral repertoire that is representative of the diversity of community choirs in Australia and the many singing cultures reflected among them. As with any community choir workshop, the repertoire one choose to present is entirely dependent on the students in each workshop group.
