ABSTRACT

The assurance of halal integrity is the key determinacy to be successful in halal industry, regardless of any type of halal products. Ensuring halal integrity in managing goods across the supply chain is a top priority for any Halal business; however, the meaning of halal integrity is being perceived differently among different markets. Integrity could be categorized as individual integrity, organization integrity or product integrity. Recognizing the different perspectives of Halal integrity discussed in previous research, the perception of halal integrity in the context of supply chain should be explained precisely to avoid miscommunication and fraudulence. The influence of halal integrity toward the aspect of the halalness of the product has become significantly important in securing the integrity at every link (network) in the halal supply chain. Although the issues of halal integrity have been widely mentioned in the halal food industry, the publications on halal integrity are still scarce and limited, especially from the logistics service provider (LSP) perspective. In the complexity of the halal supply chain, the LSP roles and responsibilities have become crucial toward achieving business sustainability in Halal trade facilitation. In view of the Syariah principle from the Department of Standard Malaysia (MS2400-2010), halal LSPs are required to comply with proactive, anticipatory and adoptive integrated management approach. In fact, in managing the process flow of halal product, LSP must also assure segregation of cargo in avoidance of contamination and ensure consumables by consumer. Thus, contaminated halal product will incur a high cost in the supply chain, leading to product wastage. This topic will cover the definition of Halal integrity in the halal supply chain and the perspective of halal LSP in the development of halal industry, discussing issues and challenges of LSP in ensuring halal integrity.
