ABSTRACT

Halal industry has gone beyond the mandatory needs and requirements for Muslims as well as become part of the trend of life and necessity. For instance, many industries have started to adopt the concept of halal products within their respective industry. On the same note, the requirements for integrity assurance from end-to-end process in halal industry have generated non-stoppable and continuous efforts from all aspects starting from preparing, producing, transporting, packaging and delivering the halal products such as goods and services from manufacturer to end customer. Alongside with the process, the roles of certification bodies in monitoring the whole process and ensuring the integrity of products are prescriptions to genuinity and purity in barcoding the products as halal. However, variances in defining the halal context and practices have ignited an ambiguous understanding, especially involving cross-border trading. This chapter does not only offer the establishment of conceptual halal integrity model in facilitating the whole process, but also provide the conceptual architecture of an information system (IS) in supporting the knowledge process within organization. Prior to that, a brief overview on the importance of halal integrity assurance starting from obtaining information from the sources leading towards understanding the major issues on variances of knowledge among practitioners is provided.
