ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a summary of the contributions to the edited volume. It describes the field of classroom discourse and interaction as not only a field in transformation, but also a field of transformation. Three main themes of transformation are identified: (1) transformations of methodology through using micro-analytical approaches, (2) transformations of student learning by enabling them to engage in learning in a more egalitarian manner, and (3) transformations of pedagogical practice through student and staff development. In addition, the chapter also describes issues arising for classroom interaction and discourse, including research and pedagogical development, resulting from a move towards online, blended and hybrid learning moves. The chapter argues that future research should explore classroom interaction in different disciplinary spaces and its potential to enhance equality and cohesion.
