ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes three short post-war Bosnian films titled 10 Minuta [10 Minutes], 42 ½, and Kako smo se igrali [The Way We Played] to develop our understanding of what is meant by the politics of forgiveness. These three short films raise the possibility of reconciliation and the hope of peace while bearing witness to the trauma of war and the cruelty of injustice. The concept of the politics of forgiveness is critically questioned and then reconstructed in a positive way through the writing of the sociologist Erving Goffman on the idea of tact regarding tact, which means showing tact towards the other in a social interaction in order to elicit tact from the other. The study demonstrates how each short film in a decisive and poignant manner employs the principle of tact regarding tact in its storytelling as a successful strategy for undertaking and teaching the task of the politics of forgiveness.
