ABSTRACT

We are living in an age of digital transformation, the coming fourth industrial revolution, and the second age of machines. These changes are also being followed in the area of culture and the protection of cultural heritage. According to recent statistics, the market value of cultural assets in the European heritage institutions is around EUR 27 billion, while less than half of the heritage collections have been digitized so far. Using different datasets, among them dataset from the ENUMERATE survey from 2012 to 2015, a causal assessment of the effects of investments (at both the macro and the micro levels of individual organizations) in the digitization of cultural heritage in Slovenia is provided. The results confirm the positive effects of the measures on both a macro and a micro level, but with large heterogeneity in the effects.
