ABSTRACT

In this final chapter we return to our own joint story, as student (Bex) and supervisor (Gayle), and we each reflect on our relationship and more broadly on our positions within the academy. This adds to our previously outlined motivations and commitment to arguing for an understanding of the doctoral journey as an emotional, embodied, political experience and provides further detail of our own particular journey(ies). We end the chapter, and the book, with some further reflection on the volume as a whole, including what it adds to discussion and debate on the doing of doctoral research, and on the journeys we travel on thereafter. For us, our journeys since being in our student-supervisor relationship have led us to this point of engaging in a shared occupation of doing authorship (which many students and supervisors do do) but also the editorship of this text. And this is a journey that has been deeply impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, remote working, political turbulence, and yet we remained academically, politically, and emotionally connected to reach our goal.
