ABSTRACT

The contributions in this volume present the situation of IRE in different national contexts. In this article, these reports are discussed from an educational perspective, drawing on Gert Biesta's proposed aims of education: qualification, socialisation, and subjectification. The conclusion is that while IRE presents a complex picture, there is a potential for developing it and exploring its contribution to (public) education. If this is to be achieved, the present marginalisation of IRE is not helpful.
