ABSTRACT

Strong leaders envision the future of an organization and ensure its stability and growth. Sometimes, however, an organization’s culture must adapt to realize the leader’s vision. Cultural change is often complicated by internal resistance and a lack of motivation. This case discusses the challenges that confront all leaders, particularly when responding to external factors outside of their control. The repercussions from change-related decisions impact the work climate quickly, whether positive or negative. Transformational leadership theory provides guidance about the impact of cultural competence, deeply held beliefs and organizational symbols, learning, power, and politics (Barakat et al., n.d.).
