ABSTRACT

This case study examines a public school district superintendent confronting the coronavirus pandemic crisis in transitioning the district to remote instruction under narrow time constraints. Amid looming crises, the scenario reflects the multifaceted processes involved when significant change is imminent. The case story illustrates the myriad of considerations required for stakeholders, personalities, value systems, and cultural patterns. Included are the skills necessary to navigate educational systems’ intricacies, reflecting value-based conflict and selecting leadership modes appropriate to a crisis situation. Readers will apply critical theory of adult development and adaptive and technical leadership to make sense of the leadership dilemmas presented.
